Hair Story

okkk, HAIR STORY.. What is it? Who makes it? And why is it so God Damn Magical???

Ok, let’s start from the beginning.. The beginning of Hair Story, or the beginning of my career in Hair Care? Let’s start with that.. I have been working with hair for over 17 years and have been pretty much obsessed with the maintenance and improvement of the Health of Hair since then…

The Cut, the Colour and the Condition of your hair are all equally as important.. if the condition of your hair is compromised the Cut and Colour will also be compromised just as when the Condition of your Hair has been improved the Cut and Colour will also greatly improve.. I can’t stress this enough, it doesn’t matter how amazing your hair is, if the condition is compromised so is everything else! As a technician I know that creating the most beautiful colours on a client requires educating your client on the right Hair Care Plan for them.

I digress, but seriously Hair Care is an integral part of all technical work and even precision cutting, it is our duty as stylists to share this knowledge with our clients, when I was promoted to the role of Hair Care Expert at Hob Salons I took the role very seriously and made it my mission to educate and assist clients with all their Hair Care needs; sometimes all we need is a trip to the Hairdressers to have a chat about our hair and we feel Awesome; we carry our heads around with us all day, every day and the salon, especially the backwash area, is the perfect place to unwind, relax and wash all that weight away with someone who understands your hair… Magic really does happen when your hair is no longer a burden or a stress to you but something you can be at peace with, something to enjoy… Washing ones hair can be a ritual, a pleasure, something to relish in, not a chore or something that you avoid doing because you use the wrong prescription of shampoo and your hair goes frizzy! So yeah, I do digress but wow what a revolution it is when you have happy hair!

So for 17 years I have been navigating my way through a sea of products, full of toxins, I kept thinking surely we don’t need all these products on our shelves, in our bathrooms? On our heads? Your scalp is the second most absorbent part of your body… not a place for chemicals. The more I listened to my clients and learned about their hair care routines, I realised that they could be doing more harm than good. I wanted to know about ALL the hair products that they had in their bathrooms so I could safely say that they weren’t damaging my client’s hair. I would recommend the ‘3 day Rule’ to all my clients so they were sworn not use Shampoo any more than every 3 days, I was pretty militant about it too, but my results were fantastic! Every day my clients would come in saying “I have taken your advice, my hair feels so much better..” it was so rewarding and so satisfying to see the improvement in my clients! Hair Care was my passion and I Loved it.

So, when I first heard about New Wash I felt like I had dreamt it up, such an amazing product, it fitted all my needs not to mention it made my hair feel incredible! I was completely sold… a natural, non-toxic, effective way to cleanse my hair! That was until I found out it wasn’t actually ‘Vegan’… (New Wash contains Keratin from Sheep’s wool) which led to a considerable amount of confusion on my part (I was such a strict vegan at the time that I wouldn’t even let you call me Honey, and I certainly wouldn’t eat it) that it took me almost a year of contemplating before I would actually commit to using New Wash again but I guess I realised that some ‘Vegan’ products are more toxic than others and I guess a little bit of wool from Sheep is better than the Synthesised plastic alternative.
